NAUTICED SLC
International Sailing License and Credentials

The International Sailing License and Credentials (SLC) is a recreational sailing license valid for all yacht charter companies worldwide including Europe and the Seychelles. The SLC-p is the power boat equivalent. To gain an SLC, the candidate must take online theory knowledge self-paced classes, log previous sufficient appropriate boating experience on boats of reasonably similar size and type, and demonstrate practical skills according to internationally and US Coast Guard established boating standards.

PLUS at least 50 days (a day being 4 hours minimum) of experience, 25 of which must be as master of the vessel and 25 must be on a boat greater than 28 ft (8.6 m)

SLC assessments are booked by appointment and typically held on weekdays. For one candidate, hours are 10am-4pm. Two candidates, 9am-5pm.

The SLC sailing assessment is held aboard our 36′ Beneteau First 36.7 out of Elliott Bay Marina, Seattle. The SLC powerboat assessment is held aboard our twin-engined 31′ Sea Ray Sundancer 290 out of Homeport Marina, Kirkland.

The first part of the day is a written navigation test, followed by boat inspection. The afternoon involves a practical boating test. Numerous situational discussions are held throughout the day to evaluate the candidate’s depth of knowledge.
