KSC In-House Clinics fill gaps that the US Sailing courses don’t cover. We offer premier training on a variety of sailing topics!
Student class sizes are limited and fill up quickly!
All our instructors are fully qualified (not in-training) with US Sailing. They also hold full USCG Captain’s licenses (not limited), meaning they have many years of verified sea-time experience to share with you. No exceptions.
Basic Keelboat Review
Continuing to build on the topics learned in US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification, this class is designed for students who want to add some miles and practice building their skills with the help of an instructor.
Each class holds a maximum of 3 students and runs for 4 hours aboard one of the Club’s 22 foot sloops. This is a great class both to springboard from Basic Keelboat and also as a refresher for a new season.
Take it once or on a regular basis!

Symmetrical Spinnaker Introduction
Learn how to rig and fly a symmetrical spinnaker!
Highly recommended for our members who wish to start One Design Racing, this class runs for 4 hours with a maximum of 3 students aboard on one of our fleet of J/22’s

Racing Fundamentals
Don’t be afraid to come racing with us!
This 3- hour shore-based class will cover the basic racing rules, strategy, tactics and crew positions to give you some background before you hop onboard as crew.

Docking Clinic (Capri 22) & Big Boat Docking Clinic
Under the guidance of an instructor, practice and build your docking technique and close-quarters maneuvering in this 3-hour class. Capri at Homeport Marina, Big Boat at Elliott Bay Marina.

KSC Race School
This exciting 6-week class will teach you how to go fast!
Join the Monday night Ballard Cup Series in a sporty J/80 with an accomplished racer and USCG Captain as coach out of Shilshole Bay marina. On-shore instruction will cover everything from race formats to starting sequences to strategy and tactics, as well as guidance on pre-race routines, tips for each role on the boat, valuable advice for aspiring skippers and much more.
Each week you’ll rotate roles on the boat to develop a full appreciation of each and their synergy. On-water coaching will include practice time for all maneuvers including mariner overboard drills to ensure you develop the skills necessary to make you a competent racer.

Participants must be familiar with points of sail, basic maneuvers and helming a tiller-steered boat. Private lessons with the coach are available through Kirkland Sailing Club to help you brush up on any of these areas prior or during the four-week program.
KSC Race Workshop
Improve your performance on the race course with the Race Workshop! This in-person class is your winter training to prepare you for the new racing season. Learn how to assess your performance properly, what impacts boat speed and pointing ability, how to prepare off the water, the effect of rig tune and how to get it right, what to prioritize in heavy and light wind conditions and where and when to place the crew. Work through exercises to ensure the theory is applicable.
Three consecutive Tuesday evenings 6pm-9pm

KSC Speed Clinic
No matter how much we study there comes a time when we need to put it all to practice. What better way to practice than to have a coach follow you on a chase boat putting you through fundamental drills every race team needs to master while taking pictures and videos? With four sessions on the water everyone gets to experience each position on the boat and each on-the-water session is followed by a classroom review of the footage and discussion. Bring your energy bars, you’re going to need them!
This class is two full days- Saturday & Sunday
