Wednesday Night Racing and other CYC OD events

For most of these events, the J/80 class crew weight limit of 746lbs is not observed by the fleet. Technically, boats found overweight could be disqualified however, as a Club we are more focused on teamwork than seasonal point scoring.

This said, there isn’t room for more than 5 or 6 people on a J/80. Typically, we find around half of our Race Membership is available for any one event, which means it all works out. There will be occasions however, when members need to share access to the boats. This is managed through the reservations system and the online event sign-up form.

Race Week and other events

Members wishing to participate in these events should reserve the boat between the crew for the entirety of the event.

Race Week is 5 days of racing with a maximum class crew weight allowed of 746lb. This typically equates to 4 adults, 5 at a squeeze. The team can elect to exceed the weight limit, however the fleet reserves the right to enforce the rules and disqualify.

Each participant uses their own membership to reserve the boat for one day (2 reservations)

The Club will reserve the boat to allow for delivery and return on each weekend either side of Race Week.

On occasions where more than 5 Performance Members per boat wish to attend the racing, the days should be shared between members. Since the event is extremely tiring, having a day or two off to relax is often a welcome relief.

Fees associated with outside events and handicap ratings are the responsibility of the crew. Fees for Race Week include the entry fee, dock space, camp site (or hotel) and divers, should you elect to have the bottom cleaned at the event.

KSC may elect to sponsor additional experienced crew using ‘unsold’ memberships. This can help both to boost the strength of the team during the event as well as assist KSC in attracting future Race Members.
